Welcome

Reaching the final of Masterchef 2007 was a rollercoaster of emotion, with huge highs and lows, but I loved every minute and learnt a huge amount. I owe a great deal to John and Gregg who had faith in my ability when I did not believe in myself. Since competing on the programme my life has changed considerably. I now write cookery columns for two magazines, give cookery demonstrations and am just working on my 13th cook book - unlucky number for some but not for me!!! I love all forms of country cooking, using seasonal and locally sourced produce. This blog is to enable me to share with you a few of my recipes and baking ideas. Enjoy Hannah xxxx

"Here comes the bride, All dressed in white"! We have received wonderful news from my brother's holiday in Morocco that he has proposed to Amy and she has said yes! She must be mad (only joking Gareth). I am very happy for them both. In true Gareth quirky style, he did not buy her a ring but gave here a bag of metal and a stone and some lessons with a silversmith to design her own ring. I hope Amy liked this off the wall idea! We all knew that Gareth was planning on proposing and there is an engagement party planned at our house on Sunday to celebrate. Not wanting to tempt fate, I have not really started planning it yet until we knew she had said yes! Now I have no excuse and had better get organised. The centrepiece is going to be a strawberry topiary tree - it is something I saw when we were driving past a wedding in France and I spied it from the car window - I have no idea how they did it but am going to try my best to recreate it in place of an engagement cake! I will post a photo and instructions if we get it to work! Congratulations again Gareth and Amy xxx

My sister works in hotels and makes them regularly, basically you need a round ball of oasis and cover it in tinfoil, stick the strawberries on with cocktail sticks and dot some bay leaves among then to break up the red.The oasis needs to be on top of a piece of dowel which you can decortate with ribbon and held in a flower pot.I am making them with ferrero rocher for my wedding instead of favours.Have fun

I've been reading Gareth and Amy's blog since you put the link up, Hannah, so I guessed that was the surprise that was on its way. Congratulations and good wishes to them both - and I know you'll do a fabulous job on the party. Make sure you post loads of photos!

It sounds incredibly romantic, this idea of giving the bride the silver and stone and classes on how to make her own ring. How unique and wonderful! Can't wait to see your strawberry topiary. I bet it's fabulous!

Hello Hannah, have very much enjoyed reading your blog - and what has prompted me to respond this time is that as I type they're showing a repeat of your Masterchef finals....we are rather behind here in Tanzania. I can't often buy the ingredients here that you and Steven recommend in your great recipes, but they always inspire hopeful shopping trips. Good luck with it all, Eliza
