This edible flower movement is catching - imagine my surprise when I was in Waitrose and their lovely staff came and asked whether I had tried their new floral cupcakes - Rose Geranium and Lavender and Lemon? I nearly fell over in shock! We of course immediately had to buy some to try. Not bad at all (I would say I prefer mine...but then I am biased) but good on Waitrose for getting a bit experimental in their bakery!

  1. Hi Hannah - see you're cutting edge!!!

Have you a rose geranium plant? If you have pick a few leaves and lay them in the base of the cake tin before you put the sponge mixture in. Then bake and the sponge is infused with the gorgeous scent. My Mum does this as a sponge tray bake and then ices the top and cuts into fingers. You could decorate with crystalised petals.

  2. I love the handy hint Celia. Sounds great to me.

Hannah I bet they weren't a patch on yours! Waitrose has good cakes, but I am betting yours are a whole lot better!

  3. I've no doubt yours are better - but, as you say, it's amazing to see this kind of cooking filtering through into the supermarkets..

  4. Hannah!
This looks lovely. I have looked everywhere to find out how to make royal icing that actually tastes good. Do you have a recipe to recommend? Here in Norway there´s no tradition for using royal icing. I would really like to make some glorious cup cakes.

  6. Hannah, do you know what I could use to make geranium flavoured icing?

I had one of these yesterday and would love to be able to make them myself.

    God bless, Rasp xx
