Welcome

Reaching the final of Masterchef 2007 was a rollercoaster of emotion, with huge highs and lows, but I loved every minute and learnt a huge amount. I owe a great deal to John and Gregg who had faith in my ability when I did not believe in myself. Since competing on the programme my life has changed considerably. I now write cookery columns for two magazines, give cookery demonstrations and am just working on my 13th cook book - unlucky number for some but not for me!!! I love all forms of country cooking, using seasonal and locally sourced produce. This blog is to enable me to share with you a few of my recipes and baking ideas. Enjoy Hannah xxxx

My Dad has recently been over to New York to visit my brother - it was so noisy that he had to wear ear plugs at night! How different my brother's life is to mine where the only noises we get here at night are the occasional owl hooting and then the dawn chorus from the rooster and peacocks! These are the delicious treats I was bought back which I have used in my baking! See's candies are just the best ever and I hope that my brother reads this and remembers to bring some over for Christmas! He is coming to stay for two whole weeks and I am really looking forward to seeing him!

The cake frosting is not for baking...it's for eating directly out of the container with a big spoon! I'm very jealous, but after Thanksgiving I'm holding back from getting my own.

New York can be noisy, but you get used to it, surprising but even though I am the lightest of sleepers I can sleep through the construction, garbage trucks and sirens. But you realize, when you spend a fall day in Central Park, how quiet the city and life really can be!

Oh Pixie sadly I did not get any almond snickers - they sound DELICIOUS! I will be putting in a demand that my brother brings some with him. They would make great rice crispy cakes melted down with butter!

I also entirely agree with the need to eat frosting from a tub with a spoon - there is no better way.

You are so lucky to have such a good contact with the states. New York is Awesome and you should go visit him. Fascinating place with fascinating people and the most fascinating food. The white peanut butter cups are delicious, I pay a fortune for them over here at one of those specialty shops. I can't help myself because it brings back all the great memories I have of visiting the USA.

Oh you lucky girl! What I wouldn't give for a box of sees candies, especially the molasses crispy ones. I can't remember what they are called, but they are like a crisp toffee covered in milk chocolate. I am drooling at the thought! It's very quiet here where we live as well so am well used to things being calm at night and no noise. I don't think I could cope with the noise of big city living! I wouldn't trade my country life for anything! Have never had a white peanut butter cup, but can well imagine they are decadently delicious. Probably a good thing I haven't got any as I would probably gorge myself on them and I really don't need the extra weight!

It seems as if we need a holiday foodie exchange. I'll send over the See's, Reese's, Baby Ruth's, peanut butter and bagels. Please just send in return proper chocolate and a turkish delight.

As an American who grew up in NYC and loves reading your blog...the photo of the frosting and the candy made me laugh, because I am not a fan of any of those things(though my children adore the stuff). Frankly, I find them all downright gross. I would much rather eat a Cadbury Flake anyday!

Sees chocolates, however, are marvelous.

As for NYC being really noisy...I never really noticed, probably because I lived directly over the highway...it was all just "background noise" to me! I guess it's all in what you are accustomed to, huh :)

Thank you again for a wonderful blog.
