A huge thank you to Penny, George, Gill, Tom and Pauline at Fitzbillies for such a wonderful time at their bakery. I learnt so much and am completely inspired to bake even more. The bakery was so homely, the air smelt of sugar and spices and I was so impressed that the original recipes are followed - such tradition is a rare find in these days of modern convenience. For me, it was the perfect way to spend a weekend and I can't wait to go back again soon.

  1. Loved the pictures of all the goodies in your previous post and this clip of the beautiful shop. What a wonderful experience for you! I have always loved the way bakeshops smell...I wish they could bottle it and sell it to use in our own homes...but then ... we'd walk around in an eternal state of hunger and longing! Not good. :-)

  2. Oh what perfection!!!!
You must have been in cake shop heaven.

And just think - Fitzbillies chelsea buns have fueled the creative thoughts and inspiration of generations of great minds who fancied a cake in the afternoon when taking a break from their studies, labs, exams and lectures. They're an English institution .... a national treasure
